BEND, Ore.—Edge Wireless L.L.C. announced it is offering its customers Airbiquity Inc.’s global positioning system accessory, which is compatible with Nokia handsets, in an effort to comply with Phase II of the Federal Communication Commission’s E911 mandate.
The service will be launched in the counties of Coos, Curry, Douglas and Josephine.
With the GPS accessory, Edge Wireless customers can send location information to a public safety answering point when dialing 911 on their mobile phone.
The Oregon Office of Emergency Management said it will begin outfitting Oregon’s PSAPs with E911-compliant equipment during the first quarter.
