China Mobile Group expects slower revenue growth

BEIJING—The China Mobile Group forecasts revenues of 48.8 billion yuan (US$17.98 billion) this year, 10.5 percent up from last year. Revenue growth has slowed from 30.9 percent in 2000 and 17.5 percent last year.

The China Mobile Group, including Beijing-based parent China Mobile Communications and Hong Kong-listed China Mobile (HK), expect to add 33 million new subscribers this year. The Ministry of Information Industry (MII) expects a total of only around 50 million new subscribers this year in China, the first time in a decade that the number is lower than the previous year.

The forecast leaves 17 million new users for the second mobile operator, China Unicom, and eventually other operators that might receive mobile licenses.
