WTB plans auction for Lower 700 MHz band

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Wireless Telecommunications Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission announced it will hold an auction for licenses in the 698-746 MHz (the Lower MHz) bands on June 19, 2002, and is currently seeking comment on price and procedural issues involved in the auctioning of the 758 licenses that make up the Lower 700 MHz.

Specifically, the Bureau is seeking comment on auction structure issues including auction inventory, simultaneous multiple round (SMR) auction design, up-front payments and eligibility and various rules. Regarding bidding procedures, the bureau seeks comment on round structure, reserve prices and minimum opening bids, minimum acceptable bids and bid increments.

If its proposals are passed, the bureau will award all licenses in a simultaneous multiple-round auction and the amount of the up-front payment submitted by a bidder will determine the number of units on which a bidder may bid.
