TOKYO—Matsushita Electric Industrial, a leading consumer electronics manufacturer, on 28 January announced it filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics, claiming that the Korean company and three U.S. subsidiaries of Samsung infringed Matsushita’s patents covering dynamic RAM (DRAM) and related technologies.
The file was actually brought to the U.S. New Jersey Federal Court on 25 January. Matsushita is demanding compensation for damages, as well as suspension of manufacturing and sales of the device in the United States.
According to Matsushita, the firm has negotiated with Samsung about three patents regarding the DRAM technologies. Because the two firms have failed to reach an agreement over the issue, Matsushita brought the case to court. The three U.S. subsidiaries are Samsung Electronics America of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey; Samsung Semiconductor of San Jose, California; and Samsung Austin Semiconductor of Austin, Texas.
Samsung Electronics holds the largest share in the worldwide DRAM market.
