Matsushita sets up a new chip firm in China

TOKYO—Japanese vendor Matsushita Electric Industrial set up a new semiconductor manufacturing company in China, the firm announced on 31 January.

The new firm, called Suzhou Matsushita Semiconductor, is located in Jiangsu Province and will initially provide discrete semiconductors for manufacturers in China, but Matsushita is also planning to export the chips to overseas markets. According to Matsushtia, Suzhou Matsushita Semiconductor is scheduled to expand its production capacity to 200 million pieces per month and the number of employees to 200 by 2005.

Matsushita has a strong presence in China and has been manufacturing a variety of products and devices in China.
