TAIPEI, Taiwan—The Taiwan third-generation (3G) auction, which was predicted to be short lived and bring in just over the minimum bid prices, is nearing a two-week run, with total bid prices up 31 percent from the government-set minimums. At the end of bidding on Wednesday, the 13th day, the total bids for five licenses had reached T$43.94 billion (US$1.3 billion), according to international press reports.
The auction ends when there are no new bids. Two newcomers to the mobile market are vying for one of the five licenses against four of the country’s incumbent operators.
