SAN DIEGO, United States—KTF in South Korea launched the Geleye service plan and associated handset, powered by Qualcomm’s gpsOne global positioning system (GPS) chipset and location software.
KTF’s Geleye handset provides subscribers access to personal safety devices that include Web-based tracking and call center services. Qualcomm said it is the first nationwide commercial position location navigation system available in South Korea through wireless networks.
SK Telecom, South Korea’s largest wireless operator, in January completed testing of a positioning system using GPS technology and plans to begin the service soon. The service offers mobile security in cooperation with S1 Corporation.
