CANNES, France—A new initiative, “European Friends of 3GPP” (EF3), was founded at this week’s 3GSM World Congress to fund the organization and support of 3GPP meetings in Europe.
Alcatel, Ericsson, Lucent Technologies, Nortel Neteworks, Siemens and Vodafone signed letters of intent to join the initiative and Orange, mmo2, Nokia and T-Mobile said they intend to sign soon. In addition, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) will work with these companies to find suitable, accessible venues for 3GPP meeting in Europe and to provide necessary logistics for those meetings.
