JAKARTA, Indonesia—Dan Kirk, an analyst at Spectrum Strategy Consulting, said growth in Indonesia’s cellular market during 2001-2005 will fall to 47 percent from 70 percent in 2001.
According to the report, Indonesia will have 20 million cellular subscribers in 2005, representing a penetration of 8 percent. At that time, the Archipelago will count 5-percent penetration in fixed-line services. Currently, Indonesia counts 6.1 million cellular subscribers and 7 million fixed line subscribers.
Furthermore, the growth figure puts Indonesia as one of the largest markets in Asia, above China (21 percent) and Thailand (12 percent) but behind India (111 percent), among other countries in the region. Short message service and other text-messaging services will contribute significantly during the period.
