BELLEVUE, Wash.—Western Wireless Corp. posted $286.4 million in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2001 and $1 billion in revenue for the entire year compared with $237.1 million and $834.9 million respectively for the previous year.
While revenues increased, net income dropped from a profit of $65.2 million, or 81 cents per share, for the fourth quarter of 2000 to a loss of $51.4 million, or a loss of 65 cents per share, last year. For the year, net income dropped from a profit of $65.4 million, a return of 81 cents per share, to a loss of $155 million, a loss of $1.97 per share.
The rural carrier said it added 19,000 net domestic subscribers during the fourth quarter ending the year with 1.1 million customers.
