JOHANNESBURG, South Africa—Mobile operator MTN Uganda has launched a short message service (SMS) content and information service, enabling subscribers to download information and trivia to their handsets.
On the first day of operation, the network claims to have had more than 26,000 inquires.
Erik van Veen, chief marketing officer for MTN Uganda, said the new service is the first of its kind in the country, and the operator will look to expand its current bouquet of information services as subscribers take to the new services. Subscribers currently can access content, such as world and local news, entertainment information, ring tones, logos, horoscopes, bible and Qur’an verses, jokes, sports and commodity prices.
