NTT East to launch 11 Mbps wireless LAN service

TOKYO—NTT East, a regional operator of NTT Group, said it will launch an 11 Megabits per second (Mbps) wireless local area network (LAN) service in March or April at the earliest. Using the 2.4 GHz band, NTT East will provide the high-speed service for PC and personal digital assistant (PDA) users.

Some carriers, including NTT Communications, the long-distance and international business unit of NTT Group, and Japan Telecom, a Vodafone Group company in Japan, are planning to launch their high-speed Internet access service in the 2.4 GHz band in March or April.

NTT East previously announced it would launch its 36 Mbps wireless high-speed service in the 5 GHz band in March at the earliest targeting hot spots.
