JAKARTA, Indonesia—Singapore’s two leading cellular operators recently launched new price plans to attract new customers and retain existing ones. Both SingTel and MobileOne (M1) are offering more free talktime and free short message service (SMS) in the plans.
Lucas Chow, chief executive officer (CEO) of SingTel Mobile, said customers’ lifestyles, communications needs and calling patterns have changed, and SingTel determined it would offer services that are more important to them. For example, the operator said its high-end users would appreciate lower calling rates, while its young customers would prefer more free SMS messages.
M1, unlike other mobile plans that set limits on the amount of free SMS and talktime offered, also now offers more flexible price plans in which customers may use a combination of free talktime and free SMS services.
Both plans are the results of customer feedback and ongoing surveys of customer preferences.
