HELSINKI, Finland—Sonera introduced a mobile purchase payment pilot in the Helsinki, Finland, metropolitan area. The test will run from 4 March to 31 August.
The service, called Sonera Shopper, is operator independent and requires only a mobile phone and mobile-phone subscription. More than 30 shops currently accept Sonera Shopper payments.
The service allows for payment through Visa and Eurocard, in addition to Sonera Shopper accounts. For the pilot, bank cards will be issued by the Finnish credit institution Luottokunta. Customers receive receipts and text message confirmations for payments, which are either charged to a credit card or debited from a Shopper account.
“The main benefit from the Shopper service is ease of payment,” said P
