Tennessee Emergency Communications Board plans Phase II E911 trial

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—The Tennessee Emergency Communications Board said it will conduct a Phase II wireless E911 location services trial across multiple public safety answering points (PSAPs) throughout Tennessee.

Several companies have partnered for the trial. Advantage Cellular Systems will deploy E911 service to its entire subscriber base, which covers six counties, at no cost to the customers. TeleCommunication Systems Inc. will provide the wireless location technology infrastructure and service components though its Xypoint Location Platform, which routes caller location information to the PSAPs. And Allen Telecom’s Grayson Wireless division will install its Geometrix wireless location system in the Advantage network, also to determine locations of 911 callers.

“The Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association has identified Tennessee as a leader in Phase I deployment. We expect to continue our leadership role as we move into Phase II,” said Randy Porter, chair of the Emergency Communications Board. “I urge all other wireless carriers in the state to follow Advantage Cellular’s lead and deploy Phase II service to their subscribers as quickly as possible.”
