TOKYO—NTT DoCoMo launched its FOMA mobile communications platform, enabling numerous people to participate in a mobile video conference.
If four people or less are involved in a video conference, the platform, which is designed to work with the carrier’s wireless video phones, allows a handset’s video screen to split into four windows to simultaneously show each person. The user can also switch to a full-screen display of each person as they speak.
A DoCoMo-led consortium is expected to begin conducting field trials of the platform in May.
