NEW YORK—Celerica Inc., a start-up wireless infrastructure provider based in Morristown, N.J., said it has commenced a beta trial of its technology for rapid cell site deployment with Cellcom, a BellSouth Corp. subsidiary that is Israel’s second-largest mobile carrier.
The Celerica 500 System provides on-demand capacity to Cellcom customers in a shopping center through a connection to a Nortel TDMA 850 base station 1,000 feet away. Radio signals from the existing macro site are sent via the Celerica system’s wireless optical links to the shopping center, where a distributed antenna system is in place.
“By using Celerica’s technology, we can remove the dedicated micro-cellular equipment and deploy it elsewhere. Our engineers are now able to consolidate all BTS (Base Transceiver Station) equipment and backhaul links at the existing macro site, saving Cellcom significant capital and operating expenses,” said Tzvika Shechori, vice president of technology for the carrier.
“In addition, due to Celerica equipment’s very small footprint, we can mount it on the wall or ceiling, and we can renegotiate our room lease rates or eliminate our need for larger equipment rooms. Best of all, we are able to implement the Celerica 500 System without any interruption to service levels.
