O2 signs on 250 corporate customers for Blackberry

LONDON—O2, Vodafone’s wireless unit, the first carrier to sell Research In Motion Ltd.’s BlackBerry wireless e-mail device in Europe, announced it has signed up more than 250 corporate customers for the BlackBerry since introducing it last autumn.

“More than 13,200 companies across North America have signed up to use BlackBerry since its launch by RIM in 1999,” said Kent Thexton, the carrier’s chief marketing and data officer. “In just five months, a similar growth path is beginning to appear in Europe as banks and law firms, in particular, seek to replicate the benefits enjoyed by their colleagues on Wall Street and in Manhattan.”

O2 also announced it signed agreements with eight independent mobile partners in the United Kingdom to resell the BlackBerry, including Advance Visual Communications, Elcom, Expansys, Lynx Technology, MoboTel, Project Telecom, PNC Telecom and Wireless Logic.
