ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.—Following the massive interest in cross-carrier text messaging in the United States, Motorola Inc. released its own interoperability product.
Motorola’s new Short Messaging Service Gateway, which is an extension of the company’s SMS center product, routes messages from one carrier to another, or from one network technology to another inside a single carrier’s network.
Most of the nation’s major carriers have in the past few months set up interoperable text messaging services.
Separately from Motorola’s announcement, Eatoni Ergonomics Inc. announced a deal with Royal Philips Electronics to make SMS messaging a standard feature on the company’s cordless phones, allowing landline phone users to take part in the wireless messaging market. Philips will install Eatoni’s predictive text entry software into its line of cordless phones.
