ERFURT, Germany—Siemens AG announced layoffs of 6,500 workers, even as it posted a net profit of$1.14 billion, up from $518 million in the same period last year.
The company said it posted an operating profit of $39.4 million in its mobile-phone and wireless gear sales as against $33.21 million last year. The German vendor said its mobile-phone sales rose to 8.3 million from 6.9 million at the same period last year, although it sold 9 million in the last quarter.
