TOKYO—NTT DoCoMo Inc. said it is launching on June 1 its i-shot service, which allows users to transmit still images taken with mova SH251i mobile phones with built-in digital cameras.
The photos can be edited prior to sending, and users will be able to attach messages with up to 100 Japanese characters. The photos can then be sent as e-mail attachments via an “i-shot center.”
NTT DoCoMo said if the person receiving the images is an i-mode user, the i–shot center will assign a URL to the message for easy access to the photos. If the receiving party accesses e-mail via a PC or mobile phone from a different Japanese carrier, images are attached directly to the message.
Users do not pay a subscription fee, however, they are charged a transmission fee depending on the amount of data sent. Transmitting a photo costs approximately 8 cents or more, receiving a URL costs 1-2 cents and it costs about 14 cents to download a photo.
The company said the price of the mova SH251I phone is unfixed, but a standard accessory kit, including a battery pack, AC adapter and desktop holder, is priced at around $50.
