NEW YORK—Trade associations UMTS Forum and 3G Americas announced they have signed a letter of understanding to “support each other globally through educational and promotional activities to increase the visibility of the 3G (third-generation) market and services, strengthen the estimated 3G market opportunity and improve industry confidence in the next generation of mobile services.”
The London-based UMTS Forum, established in 1996, is an independent organization promoting the global uptake of 3G mobile systems and services. Its Web site is www.umts-forum.org.
3G Americas, a new wireless trade organization headquartered in Bellevue, Wash., is focused on enabling the success of TDMA, GSM, GPRS, EDGE and UMTS throughout North and South America. Its Web site is www.3gamericas.org.
