Vodafone Germany signs Alatto for MMS applications

OXFORD, United Kingdom—In an effort to promote the use of multimedia messaging service (MMS), Vizzavi Deutschland, the wireless portal jointly owned by Vodafone and Vivendi Universal, has requested Alatto Technologies to supply consumer applications that will be delivered via the local Vodafone’s MMS offering.

Dublin, Ireland-based Alatto said it will customize a range of MMS products to target audiences of Vizzavi Deutschland, the exclusive mobile portal for all Vodafone D2 customers in Germany. The content will enable users with MMS-enabled cell phones to send and receive rich multimedia content, including animated color images and audio clips.

Recently, Ericsson stated that MMS would become more popular than text messaging during the next three years, with the whole mobile messaging market accounting for 23.4 billion euro (US$21.7 billion) in revenues by 2006, up from 14.3 billion euro (US$13.5 billion) last year. Sony Ericsson is the only firm to offer an MMS-capable handset, while Nokia plans to launch an MMS phone by the end of the year.
