BEDMINSTER, N.J.—Verizon Wireless unveiled three international calling options including lower international calling rates, expanded prepaid offerings and an International Wireless program for customers calling abroad.
The international calling rates will allow customers to call more than 160 countries for either 65 cents per minute or $1.50 per minute depending on the country. Some of the countries included in the 65-cents-per-minute rate are Australia, Japan, South Africa, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Bermuda, and Trinidad and Tobago. The $1.50 per minute rate applies to other countries including Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Nepal and Vietnam.
For its Freeup prepaid customers, Verizon Wireless is now offering the ability to call nearly 100 countries for 50 cents per minute plus airtime.
And for customers traveling oversees, the carrier’s International Traveler service now provides a phone rental option provided by Rent-A-Phone Ltd. Through the service, customers can rent a GSM- or PDC-compatible phone for $3 per day or purchase a GSM handset for between $150 and $250. Airtime rates range between $1.50 and $2.50 per minute, with calls received in the United Kingdom and Japan free.
