WASHINGTON—President Bush signed H.R. 4560 into law this morning delaying the auction of most of the 700 MHz spectrum band and eliminating other legislative deadlines for auctioning other spectrum bands. The President signed the bill after both the House of Representatives and the Senate passed the legislation late Tuesday.
The bill allows for 18 megahertz in the lower 700 MHz band to be auctioned this summer, but eliminates deadlines for auctioning the remaining portions of the 700 MHz band as well as other bands including the 1.7 GHz and 2.1 GHz bands.
“The President and key members of his Administration have provided strong leadership throughout the process of delaying these premature 700 MHz auctions,” said Tom Wheeler, president and chief executive officer of the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association. “Today’s action enables us to continue the important work of crafting sound spectrum management policies.”
