ALAMEDA, California, United States-UTStarcom said it won a US$19.9 million contract in Vietnam to deploy its IP-based PAS citywide wireless access system to Vietnam Post and Telecommunications (VNPT) in the cities of Hanoi, the capital, and Ho Chi Minh.
NVPT is expected to launch service in the late third quarter or early fourth quarter under the brand name Urban Mobile Communication Service and will allow countrywide roaming.
“This contract is extremely significant in terms of what it can mean for Vietnam and further demonstrates our commitment to execute on our international expansion strategy,” said David Robison, vice president of international sales for UTStarcom.
