No cell phones in Pa. prisons

HARRISBURG, Pa.-Pennsylvania attorney general Mike Fisher, praised the General Assembly for passing Senate Bill 820, sponsored by Sen. Jake Corman, which would prohibit prison inmates from possessing telecommunication devices.

“I want to commend Sen. Corman and the General Assembly for adding cell phones, pagers and other electronic communications devices to the list of prohibited items in prison,” said Fisher. “This is a common-sense approach to ensuring that criminal rings cannot continue to operate from inside the prison walls.”

The bill was drafted after an investigation showed a Westmoreland County Jail inmate was operating a drug ring via a cell phone he allegedly obtained from a corrections officer at the jail.
