WASHINGTON-Even though the company recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization, the Washington Post reported NII Holdings Inc. plans to pay nearly $6 million in retention bonuses to 24 employees in an attempt to keep what it calls essential employees until the bankruptcy court confirms its reorganization plans.
The 24 employees are mostly senior managers who will receive between 50 percent and 75 percent of their annual salaries. NII Holdings, which was previously known as Nextel International Inc., wanted to pay as much as $9.6 million in bonuses before it settled on the lower figure after negotiations with creditors.
