SEOUL, Korea-Lucent Technologies Inc. will supply third-generation cdma2000 technology to Korean mobile operator KTF.
Under the contract, Lucent will upgrade KTF’s 2G network in Korea’s Kyungsang province to cdma2000 1x technology, which should double voice capacity and enable high-speed data services. For the upgrade, Lucent will add channel cards and make software upgrades to the existing Lucent-supplied base stations in the province.
“By working with Lucent, we are confident we will be able to offer our customers the most advanced wireless services, while at the same time preserving our investment in our existing network equipment,” said Chung-Kun Lee, senior vice president and chief technology officer of KTF. “We look forward to working with Lucent to further develop our reliable and flexible high-speed 3G data services.”
