MANILA, The Philippines-International telecommunications giant AT&T is considering telecommunications companies like Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT), Smart Communications and Ayala-owned Globe Telecom as partners for its US$300 million network expansion in the Philippines.
The move is part of AT&T’s global network expansion this year, according to AT&T Philippines General Manager Edwin Lapitan, noting that most of the amount will be spent in the expansion process in Europe and in the Asia-Pacific region, as networks here will be upgraded.
Lapitan said the company is looking at PLDT because of its vast fixed-line network, while Smart and Globe have their own mobile networks.
AT&T, which started operations in the country in 1999, has more than 40 corporate customers, including telecom companies and Internet service providers (ISP) and more than 50 minor customers.
