FCC affirms E911 cost demarcation point

WASHINGTON-The Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday announced a decision made May 14 to keep in place the selective router as the demarcation point for wireless enhanced 911 cost recovery.

Verizon Wireless Inc., VoiceStream Wireless Corp., Qwest Wireless L.L.C. and Nextel Communications Inc. had urged the FCC to reconsider a wireless bureau decision made after the FCC said cost recovery only had to be in place for the public-safety answering point for carriers to be obligated to deploy E911 services.

The carriers had argued that the demarcation point should be the output of the wireless carrier’s mobile switching center.
