WorldCom, Cingular reach agreement, WorldCom execs surrender

NEW YORK-WorldCom and Cingular Wireless reached a tentative agreement yesterday, settling the dispute between the two companies over the possible transfer of approximately 300,000 WorldCom wireless customers to Cingular’s network.

Details of the agreement are not expected until certain parties involved with WorldCom’s bankruptcy proceedings are notified, although a U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge gave all interested parties until noon tomorrow to file objections to the plan.

It was reported the short deadline was requested by both companies to prevent customers from dropping the wireless service, estimated at around 100,000 subscribers per month.

In other news, former WorldCom Chief Financial Officer Scott Sullivan and former Controller David Myers surrendered early Thursday morning to face fraud and conspiracy charges of hiding US$3.8 billion in company expenses in the now bankrupt company.
