ALLENTOWN, Pa.-Agere Systems Inc. said it plans to slash 4,000 jobs, which amounts to a third of its staff. The company also plans to do away with its optoelectronics business, which accounted for 10 percent of its operations.
The former Lucent technology subsidiary said it will shut down some of its factories and focus on its Orlando, Fla.-based site.
