BUCHAREST, Romania-EuroTel Praha, the Czech GSM operator, announced it will launch multimedia messaging service (MMS) for its contract customers on 30 August.
“Multimedia messaging is the natural evolution of SMS (short message service) technology, and MMS takes us a major step closer to third-generation technology,” said Terrence Valeski, Eurotel’s chief executive officer (CEO) and general manager.
“We expect that starting from the end of this year, the majority of mobile phones will support MMS, and many of them will have the camera integrated into the phone. In the next three to five years, phones will regularly come with cameras and color displays, and MMS will be as common as SMS today.”
The launch of MMS was originally planned for 25 August. Due to the recent events in the Czech Republic, EuroTel decided to concentrate its attention on helping the flood victims and documenting the flood consequences and moved back the launch of the MMS service.
