BEIJING-China’s telecom industry is seeking more government support for China’s own third-generation (3G) technology, Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA), but so far, the government has not indicated which 3G standard it will choose.
The most ardent foreign supporter of TD-SCDMA is Siemens, which has invested millions of dollars in co-developing the technology. According to Li Wanlin, chief technology officer (CTO) of Siemens China, TD-SCDMA offers better frequency efficiency than other 3G technologies, a crucial advantage in densely populated markets like China.
