Globalstar announces lower pricing options

SAN JOSE, Calif.-Globalstar announced five new pricing plans that bring the costs of satellite telephone services closer to the costs of cellular.

The new price plans, which include monthly access and voice or data minutes are: $34.95 for 30 minutes; $49.95 for 120 minutes; $99.95 for 400 minutes; $249.95 for 1,250 minutes; and $499.95 for 3,000. Additional minutes then range from 49 to 99 cents. Also, Globalstar is offering its handsets at a reduced price of $599. The new plans are available in the United States and the Caribbean and Globalstar said it plans to introduce comparable plans across the globe in coming months.

“These aggressive new price plans now open up our business to a vast, new array of potential customers,” said Olof Lundberg, chairman and chief executive officer of Globalstar. “But just as importantly, this signals the beginning of an entirely new phase in the mobile satellite telephone industry and in Globalstar’s evolution as a company.”
