Indian operators to approach regulator on WLL tariff

NEW DELHI, India-The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has decided to approach the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regarding the government-owned fixed-line opereator BSNL’s tariff structure for its wireless local loop (WLL) service.

Terming the BSNL tariff as “predatory pricing,” COAI Chairman Manoj Kohli said basic service providers are able to offer low tariffs because the regulatory regime is in their favor. According to this tariff, a moderate user of BSNL’s WLL service will pay less than its fixed-line subscribers.

BSNL plans to launch its WLL service in six telecom circles beginning 1 September.
