JOHANNESBURG, South Africa-The mobile arm of government-owned telecom operator Nitel GSM announced it will cut its GSM tariffs. The adjustment is expected to be a significant boost for mobile telephony in Nigeria and is contrary to the opinion that due to the high cost of interconnectivity, the company would have to increase its tariffs.
The operator also announced that its infrastructure has been improved with the installation of additional base stations and soon subscribers will be able to take advantage of the ability to send and receive text messages.
