Beijing-Nortel Networks Ltd. said it has signed a $40 million contract to expand GSM wireless networks in the autonomous regions of Xinjiang Uygur and Ningxia Hui, the Shanxi province and the city of Chongqing.
The upgrade also will enable China Unicom to offer new wireless data services in those areas, according to Nortel.
