NEW DELHI, India-The booming Thai mobile market is showing early signs of a slowdown, a top industry leader has said.
The market is “almost saturated” with sales slowing after hitting the peak in the first three quarters of this year, DTAC Chief Executive Boonchai Bencharongkul was quoted as saying in the Thai media.
Among the signs of slowdown are reduced revenue per line, less aggressive promotional campaigns, and less intense competition among local operators. Despite record sales, profits per unit are declining. Thailand currently has about 13 million mobile users.
Performances of the operators in the first half of this year exceeded market expectations, Boonchai said, with outstanding sales volumes. But in the third quarter, leading players are shifting the focus from promotions to retaining their customer bases.
