Kyocera enters Chile as a Smartcom PCS provider

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina-Kyocera Wireless entered the Chilean cellular market as a terminal provider for the Smartcom PCS network. Smartcom is the first South American operator outside Brazil to launch a 2.5-generation (2.5G) network using CDMA 1xRTT.

At the same time, Kyocera also announced that it is discussing the possibility of becoming the terminal provider for BellSouth Chile beginning next year, when BellSouth launches its own CDMA 1xRTT network at 1900 MHz.
