Africell gains national transport company as a subscriber

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa-Gambian mobile network operator Africell announced it has entered a deal with national transport company The Gambia Public Transport Corporation (GPTC).

The deal numbering more than 100 phones and connections is reported to be aimed at strengthening communications within GPTC, enhancing productivity and efficiency in the area of transportation. The partnership evolved last month when the management and members of the staff union GPTC chose to take the opportunity offered by Africell, the only private GSM company in Gambia, to enhance the productivity of the members of the transportation company, made up of drivers, conductors, engineers and sales persons.

Mustapha Houri, managing director of Africell, expressed optimism at the deal and reiterated the network’s commitment toward strengthening the partnership that already exists between the public and private sectors.

Jeggan Grey-Johnson, the marketing and public relations manager, said the link between communications and transportation should not be underestimated. “The two are inseparable, and with Africell’s nationwide coverage and reliable network, we are confident that GPTC will be in a better position now to capitalize on its linkage and routes throughout the country in scheduling maintenance reporting and back-ups through the use of these facilities being handed over today.”
