Cell C shareholder to seek new African opportunities

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa-Cell C shareholder Saudi Oger is reported to be seeking fresh opportunities in other emerging African markets.

Jonahan Newman, the network’s chief of strategy development, said the possibilities currently being weighed include operations in Pakistan and Egypt. According to Newman, the Cell C operation has afforded the company the experience to begin developing strategies, which may be replicated in similar markets.

Newman said the company would be looking at emerging markets of Africa with an eye to acquiring new licenses or simply buying existing operations as the collapse of the world telecom market has left some international operators wanting to focus on their home markets.
