JAKARTA, Indonesia-Singapore’s mobile market recorded a slight downturn in the number of prepaid subscribers in August.
As reported by Singapore’s Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), the country’s telecom regulator, total prepaid subscribers included 810,800 subscribers as of August. It represents a negative 17.86-percent growth compared with the same period last year and negative 1.11-percent growth compared with the previous month this year.
The decrease is the result of the country’s mobile operators deluging the market with new services and offerings mostly available for postpaid customers during the past three months.
During the period, MobileOne released price plans that cut call prices during peak hours more than 50 percent. StarHub delivered StarHub Mobile’s corporate and business customers a service that allows customers to wirelessly access their companies’ Microsoft Exchange servers and intranet databases. SingTel Mobile continued revising its postpaid packages with more free value-added services.
In general, total mobile subscribers in Singapore numbered 3,102,200 as of August. The figure represents a 0.74-percent growth compared with the same period last year.
The country’s mobile penetration stands at 75.1 percent, an increase of 0.6 percent from the same period last year.
