KISHINEV, Moldova-The Interdnestrcom carrier from the breakaway Dnestr region of Moldova said it completed the modernization of its CDMA IS-95 network and launched third-generation (3G) cdma2000 1x services.
Lucent Technologies, which helped Interdnestrcom launch IS-95 network in 1999, supplied the necessary equipment and software for the new technology.
“The modernized network is our work for the future. The sooner the services are accessible to our customers, the faster the intellectual level of the clients will grow, as well as the demand for the demonstrated services,” said Interdnestrcom First Deputy Director General Sergei Ganzha.
In contrast to the breakaway region, which is separated from the rest of the country by the Dnestr River, the Republic of Moldova sticks to GSM technology, which is operated by carriers Moldcell and Voxtel. Biggest Russian carrier Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) is eyeing the third Moldovan GSM license.
