OYSTER BAY, N.Y.-In addition to mobile handsets, Bluetooth is poised for growth across several industries and geographic markets according to a comprehensive report on Bluetooth technologies from Allied Business Intelligence.
ABI’s “Bluetooth-The Global Outlook for Bluetooth Component and Equipment Markets” predicts computing devices like Bluetooth cordless mice and keyboards will account for 21 percent of all Bluetooth-enabled devices that will ship in 2003 and 27 percent by 2007.
“In our view one of the most significant opportunities is the computing segment, which is expected to ramp up markedly in the 2003-2004 time period,” explained Navin Sabharwal, director of residential and networking technologies and author of the report. “Microsoft’s recent addition of Bluetooth support for Windows XP will be a critical driver for Bluetooth adoption in computing devices as PC OEMs treat this as a green light to accelerate their Bluetooth integration programs.”
The analyst firm also predicts Bluetooth will make a showing in the consumer electronics and automotive industries in addition to the mobile handset segment, where it will likely dominate.
In all, ABI expects Bluetooth shipments to increase from 11.2 million in 2001 to 33.8 million in 2002 and to grow to more than 1.1 billion by 2007, with revenues reaching $2.54 billion.
