ARLINGTON, Ill.-Neither Motorola nor STMicroelectronics has confirmed press reports that both companies are in talks that could lead to Motorola’s semiconductor division being sold to STMicroelectronics. Such a merger will make STMicroelectronics the second-largest chip company in the world.
“We don’t comment on rumors,” said Christopher Galvin, the company’s chairman and chief executive. “If people do their homework, they’ll understand whether those things are possible or not.”
Motorola also has been reported to have been in talks with Siemens AG on the prospect of swapping its networking division for the German vendor’s handset business.
