TORONTO-Rogers Wireless Communications reported its fourth consecutive quarter of double-digit operating profit, with a 31-percent increase to C$158.2 million (US$100.6 million) from C$123.8 million (US$78.8 million) a year earlier.
The strong results for the third quarter prompted Rogers Wireless to increase its operating profit guidance for this year to C$490 million (US$311.8 million) to C$510 million (US$324.5 million), up from C$450 million (US$286.3 million) to C$480 million (US$305.4 million).
Rogers Wireless signed up 71,400 new voice subscribers in the quarter, up 29 percent from a year ago. Eighty-one percent were higher-margin postpaid customers.
For the three months ended 30 September, Rogers Wireless reported a loss of C$14.1 million (US$18.9 million), or 10 Canadian cents a share, on revenue of C$520 million (US$330 million), compared with a loss of C$49.1 million (US$31.2 million), or 35 Canadian cents.
Rogers Wireless operates under the brand name of Rogers AT&T Wireless and has more than 3.2 million wireless voice subscribers. It is 56-percent owned by Rogers Communications and 34-percent owned by AT&T Wireless Services.
