Verizon tests prepaid replenishment service

WOBURN, Mass.-Verizon Wireless Inc. is testing a new service that will allow wireless uses to replenish prepaid wireless service via automatic teller machines (ATMs).

To immediately replenish minutes, users swipe a major credit card at an ATM, enter their wireless phone number and chose a replenishment amount. They can then also view their remaining account balance and total amount charged.

Verizon said it is currently testing the service in St. Louis and will begin trials in Boston at the end of this month. The carrier expects its solution to roll out nationwide in early 2003.
