OXFORD, United Kingdom-Having built a wireless network covering nearly 20 percent of the German population, the beleaguered operator MobilCom is now said to be negotiating the sale of its infrastructure to E-Plus Mobilfunk. In return, E-Plus, which is owned by Royal KPN Telecom, is said to be offering to forgo the 600 million euros (US$586.2 million) that MobilCom currently owes under a services contract.
Earlier this year, MobilCom claimed to lead the race to build 3G infrastructure in Germany, having gained the necessary approval to build more than 3,500 base stations and having installed third-generation (3G) equipment within close to 1,000 of them. However, this all came to an abrupt halt when MobilCom’s major shareholder, France T
